How Industry and Academia Can Work Together

This section is to provide ideas on how industry and academia can work together. Although many of the examples relate to how the insurance industry relates to Illinois State University vis a vis the ISU Center for Risk and Insurance (aka Katie School), since this wiki is hosted by Katie, the ideas and suggestions have application beyond that limited scope. Even the tool of a wiki, such as this one, Katiepedia.com, is an example of one of many ways in which the two communities can interact by providing content valuable to both academics and industry practitioners.
We encourage industry and academics to provide additional content to this section to that which we have posted.

The Katie School supports research on insurance industry questions. Any ISU faculty member from any discipline is eligible. Grants include formal research grants with formal proposals to more informal faculty development grants on more targeted projects. Grants range from $2,000 to $15,000 depending on the project. Faculty members at other universities are also eligible if they are working with an ISU faculty member on the project. For more information see
    .
Each year, the Katie School works with industry executives to try and establish a list of questions that would also make good research projects for faculty. The following represents the 2008 results, along with a PowerPoint presentation giving an overview on the methodology for identifying appropriate insurance industry research questions for faculty.
